Law / Culture / Subjectivity / China

I am a sociocultural anthropologist, qualitative and socio-legal researcher, legal writer, and lecturer in Legal Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, specializing in law in the contemporary People’s Republic of China. My research uses legal reform in the contemporary People's Republic of China as a window into the mechanisms by which modern forms of highly centralized, rationalized, and bureaucratized law shape culture, social morality, and subjectivity.
